What attracted you to the industry you are in?
Hands on and practical with many different specialities to choose from. Very varied work caring for people and opportunities for single handed working as well as team working

Currently managing 2 small departments. Previous post Patient facing clinical work and reporting images

Diploma in Radiography, BSc(Hons), PG cert

Do you like living and working in the Inverness & Highlands?
I love it, my work is varied and my work/life balance is great
What skills are the most important for you to do your job well?
Being a good communicator and having a flexible approach to work
Was there anything about the job that surprised you?
The degree of different directions and flexibility
Is there anything unusual about your role?
Radiographers in remote and rural areas are dual trained in CT and x-ray which you don’t get in most hospitals
Do you get a lot of support from your company?
Yes, the NHS is a great employer
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Taking X-Rays of difficult things on difficult patients and having to adapt my technique while having excellent communication with patients
Did you always want to pursue a career in this industry?
I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I visited an X-ray dept and thought it looked varied and interesting. It certainly has been!
What is your advice for young school leavers looking to start an apprenticeship?
Think about what you like and then look for a career that fits. I liked science and people so Radiography has been great for me
What is your career goal?
I have now reached it as a manager. I have done a lot of varied roles in between
How does it feel to be a KeyWorker on the frontline, supporting the Country’s fight against Covid-19?
Very proud that imaging has played such an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients
Tell us what makes you proud to be a Keyworker?
I know that as a Radiographer we are very important in many aspects of a patient’s journey. I am proud to make a difference to that journey
