The BIG Apprenticeship Event
Tuesday, 28th March 2017
The BIG apprenticeship event was not just big in terms of size; it was big in ambition.
Delivered by a partnership including Developing the Young Workforce Inverness & Central Highland, Skills Development Scotland, Inverness College, and hosted by Inverness Royal Academy in their brand new school building, the event was without doubt a huge success.
The partnership was delighted to welcome over 250 parents and pupils throughout the afternoon, some of which travelled a significant distance to attend – Kyle of Lochalsh and Aberlour amongst the place names which were mentioned on the day.
Coupled with pupils from the Academy who attended earlier in the day, there were over 650 attendees, a tremendous turnout.
Amongst those exhibiting was a handful of MA providers who administer the MA on behalf of the employers and partners.
All attendees engaged with the 44 employers and businesses exhibiting, providing a fantastic opportunity for all to talk over career opportunities, including Modern Apprenticeship (MA) frameworks.
All in all, the Big Apprenticeship Event was a one stop shop for all things connected with the MA.
In addition, there were apprenticeship focused presentations provided by Skills Development Scotland and Inverness College that aimed to give a broad understanding as to the purpose of the MA family; e.g. the Modern, Graduate and Foundation apprenticeships that are available and which highlight the work based learning alternatives now available to young people.
As all the exhibitors commented, the school did themselves proud; with the catering team putting on a delicious lunch; the Tanzania team manning a home baking stall; the film team and the musicians, all of whom created a relaxed and warm atmosphere during the break and welcome for evening visitors.
A particular mention should be given to the school’s prefects who were attentive at all times and catered for all needs. We were extremely grateful for this support on the day.
Feedback from exhibitors has been hugely positive and we will follow up in the next few weeks and months to identify successes and celebrate the outcomes of the BIG event.
