William-Murdo MacRitchie, 22 from Inverness, has wanted to pursue a career in the Logistics industry for as long as he can remember.
His journey began 16 months ago as a yardman with MacRitchie Highland Distribution in Inverness. From there he worked as office staff before completing an HGV Class 1 & 2 to become an HGV driver at one of the leading providers of road haulage and distribution services from the Scottish central belt to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, travelling to depots in Inverness, Glasgow, Wick and Stornoway.
When asked if he enjoys living and working in the Highland, William-Murdo told us: "Yes I do. It's where I am from and I love living and working here. I grew up in and around this industry, and I have wanted to pursue a career in it ever since I can remember."
William-Murdo's role doesn't only involve driving. On a day-to-day basis he has the responsibility of loading and unloading the lorries between deliveries as well as completing all the necessary office work. Because of his experience in various roles, William-Murdo says he has improved his people skills and learned how to deal with the public from working in such a busy environment. He believes that dealing with customers and doing his best in any task is the most important part of his job, and takes pride in being able to help all over the organisation.
His advice for anyone considering a career in logistics? "It is a tough industry to work in but it is really rewarding and there are loads of parts of this business you can work in."
Finally, we asked William-Murdo what his career goal is: "To one day look back and say that I enjoyed the work I did with the time I had."
